MY STORY
Since 1992, high school teacher, James (Jim) Hughes, has inspired thousands of students with his positive message of strength and resilience while facing the profound challenges of being totally blind and deaf. Recently expanding to audiences beyond the classroom, and sharing his GAMER (Grateful, Acceptance, Motivation, Enjoy, and Reflect) philosophy, James’ genuine, dynamic personality captivates listeners. His unique outlook and highly-applicable framework provide a manageable approach for anyone struggling with life’s obstacles. Humor, honesty, and relatability are his greatest attributes as a speaker; people come away from his talks feeling inspired and ready to accept and manage life’s challenges.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
Frieda J. Riley Award
The Freida J. Riley Teacher Award was presented to an American teacher who worked with a physical disability, taught in an especially challenging educational environment, or performed a heroic act by making an exceptional, personal or physical sacrifice on behalf of students. The award was named after Freida J. Riley a math, chemistry and physics teacher during the early space race era of the 1950s and early 1960s at Big Creek High School in Coalwood, West Virginia. While battling Hodgkin’s disease, she inspired her students to overcome the limited opportunities of their environment and aspire to fulfill their dreams. |
